Please Stay

Depression and thoughts of suicide are very common. These are often kept private, for many reasons. This program was produced by Lansing Community College faculty, students and staff to increase suicide and depression awareness, to help destigmatize mental health challenges and to encourage people who are struggling to seek the help they deserve and need.

Please Stay: A Call for Depression and Suicide Awareness uses poetry, music, drama, dialogue and dance to explore the pain of mental health struggles, offer reflections and resources, and heed the very human call for help with compassion and support.

You are not alone. You are important. We need you – and all of us – to help each other, to please – stay.

Anchored by the virtual choir performance of Jake Runestad’s song, “Please Stay,” the video runs about 30 minutes and features LCC singers, actors, dancers and musicians, guest artist Kisma Jordan, as well as an LCC counselor, a staff member and a student sharing their experiences. It is a multi-disciplinary collaboration between LCC Music, English, Dance, Theatre, Digital Media, Counseling Services, Media Services and the President’s Office, with support from a Star Day of Giving grant through the LCC Foundation.

Trans Lifeline is a national trans-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of trans lives by responding to the critical needs of our community with direct service, material support, advocacy, and education. Fighting the epidemic of trans suicide and improving overall life-outcomes of trans people the Trans Lifeline facilitates justice-oriented, collective community aid. Their peer support hotline is run by and for trans people. Trans Lifeline is available daily from 7 a.m.–1 a.m. PST / 9 a.m.–3 a.m. CST / 10 a.m.–4 a.m. EST. Volunteers may be available during off hours.
