Creative Arts
Explore culture and find your creativity through music, drawing, painting, photography and more.
- Beginning Digital Photography, Part 1 -
Bring your smartphone and/or digital camera along with the owner’s manual and learn the technical and aesthetic aspects of their use to take photos you can be proud of! Learn how to save photos, protect them from loss, and share them with others. Find how advanced techniques allow you to capture a mood, tell a story, and express yourself through capturing images of the world around you.
This is a hands–on class, so plan to put your camera to use each week and see your photography skills improve. Students are responsible to supply their own digital camera or smartphone. - Beginning Digital Photography, Part 2 -
This class is a continuation of Beginning Digital Photography Part One. Students do not have to take Beginning Photography Part 1 in order to enroll in Beginning Digital Photography Part 2.
In this class, students will learn the following: How to capture stunning landscapes and architecture photos while controlling depth of field. Explore macro close-up techniques while shooting food, flowers, and butterflies. Practice sports and pets-in-motion photography and learn how to stop action and create blurs. Shoot short video clips and edit them with in-camera software and third-party smart phone applications. Delve into the qualities of sunlight and man-made light sources. Experiment with light painting in darkness. - Creative Welding and Metalwork -
Creative Welding and Metalwork provides the unique opportunity to learn new, hands-on skills and create sculpture, wall art—or more practical pieces—within the surprisingly versatile medium of metal. Designed to accommodate those with no welding experience as well as those who have been welding many years, students can choose their own project and LCC Welding faculty Scott Poe will help guide the process through one-on-one instruction.
Topics covered include the basics of welding, which can be self-paced based on experience level, and processes and techniques will be demonstrated including layout and fabrication tips, blacksmithing and forging, drawing out, tapers, scrolls, bending and upsetting.
*New students are required to attend the first meeting of the class for valuable safety information. - Urban Photography -
This five-week class explores the city’s landscape through the lens of a camera. Students will learn to express their artistic vision and expand their portfolio through a combination of lecture, weekly assignments, critiques and field trips in the Greater Lansing area. Examples of classic and contemporary street photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Gary Winogrand, Wee Gee, Margaret Bourke-White, and Annie Leibowitz will be examined.
Students will learn how to use their cameras and smart phones to document architecture both old and new, cityscapes at dusk, store fronts and neon signs, trains, buses and cars, restaurants, food and people portraits in the city with this unique and exciting class. - Concert Choir
