Lansing Community College

August is National Make-A-Will Month! Your support ensures that the LCC Foundation has a sustainable and secure future providing programs for our students. As a thank you, we want to support you with a free resource to help you write an estate plan.

When the LCC Foundation learned that nearly two-thirds of people do not have an estate plan, we partnered with FreeWill to offer our community a free online resource empowering you to create an estate plan. FreeWill’s secure online tool helps you write a will at no immediate cost, so you can rest assured that your assets have a plan in place.

Additionally, if you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any other asset that your will does not cover (non-probate assets), it’s important that you set your beneficiaries for them separately. You can even use FreeWill to designate LCC Foundation as a beneficiary of these assets to support our future of enriching lives through education.

Thinking about what’s included in your estate can feel overwhelming, but taking inventory of your assets can help. FreeWill’s estate planning tools are available for you to take this important step to secure your future, at no immediate cost. We hope this free service will relieve some of the burden of planning for the future!

FreeWill can also help you plan beneficiaries for assets that may not be included in your will. Non-probate assets such as an IRA, a 401(k), and any additional accounts need to be planned for separately. Using this online tool (opens to partner page), you can get started logging all of your assets today.

Have you already made a gift to Lansing Community College Foundation in your estate plans? Please let us know by filling out this form so that we can say thank you and keep our records up to date!

Donors 70.5 or older with a traditional IRA are eligible to make a tax-free donation to LCC directly from their IRAs. If you are 72 or older and have to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), these gifts can count towards your RMD while being tax-beneficial.

You can use our online tool (opens to partner page) to make your tax-free donation online, print out the forms you need to complete the gift offline, or learn more about the benefits of giving from your IRA.

Many donors prefer to make gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or exchange-traded funds because it can have a large impact on our mission while maximizing potential tax benefits by avoiding paying tax on capital gains.
