Important notice: Effective January 1, 2018, tax law requires all educational institutions to report payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) in Box 1 of the Form 1098T.

The Privacy Act Notice, Section 6109 of the Internal Revenue Code, REQUIRES students to give their Social Security Number (SSN) to those who must file specific information with the IRS about them. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure their records are up to date and as accurate as possible. If your social security number is incomplete or missing from your student account with Lansing Community College, your 1098T statement will generate; however it will not match with the IRS. If you are not eligible to have a social security number, your taxpayer identification number is sufficient.

If there is an error in the student’s records, contact the registrar’s office. Be sure to have all necessary documentation and proper identification when attempting to update your information. A valid ID and your Social Security card must be presented in order for a student’s SSN to be changed. It is important to note, failure to furnish a correct SSN subjects the student to a penalty of $50 by the IRS, if due to willful neglect.

Please note: LCC will use your SSN for the purpose of preparing the 1098T tuition statement. All other documentation printed by the college will use your student ID number. Students that do not wish to provide LCC with a social security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) will need to complete the Opt-Out form and return it to the StarZone or Mail the form:
