The Financial Aid Office and Career & Employment Services (CES) Department provide coordinated services and related support for LCC students.
CES provides career advising, resume writing assistance, mock interviewing prep, and access to off-campus (external) internships and part/full-time/seasonable opportunities through Student Job Link.
Financial Aid is responsible for managing on-campus (internal) student jobs, Federal Work-Study and Reading Tutor (community service) positions. Available student staff postings are listed on Careers at LCC.
The following requirement apply, in order to maintain student employment eligibility:
- Enrolled and actively attending the minimum total LCC credit hours each semester
- Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) – 6.0 credits minimum (during main 16-week period)
- Summer Semester – 3.0 credits minimum (during main 8-week period)
- International students (F-1 visa holders) – enrolled and actively attending 12.0 credit hours minimum during fall and/or spring semesters, 3.0 credit hours minimum during summer semester (same part-of-term rules apply to all)
- Minimum 2.00 GPA overall (exceptions: student’s first semester of enrollment or approved waiver from the Student Employment Coordinator in Financial Aid)
- Student staff are allowed to work 25.0 hours per week maximum during fall, spring
and summer semester(s).
Note: International student employees are allowed to work 20.0 hours/week maximum during fall and/or spring semesters, as required by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) student visa regulations; however, they may work 25.0 hours/week total during summer semester and break periods only.
Federal Work-Study
Work-Study is a need-based financial aid award that provides eligible students with employment opportunities, both on- and off-campus, to assist with educational-related costs. Basic eligibility requirements must be met to receive these annual funds. To view the amount of total aid awarded for a particular year, including Work-Study, students must access their Financial Aid Record by clicking on the Financial Aid tab within Banner Self-Service Dashboard.
The actual Work-Study award does not guarantee a job for students. Instead, a competitive search is required to secure on-campus employment. After submitting the required application form, those who are selected for an interview typically are most successful in highlighting their relevant accomplishments and skills in relation to each unique position (i.e., fit w/ job description). Once hired, student staff earn a biweekly paycheck that is funded with their awarded Work-Study dollars. Students can earn up to this maximum amount, assuming Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is maintained for continued eligibility. If/when a student’s earned gross wages (total) reaches the maximum award amount remaining, the hiring department determines whether institutional funds are available to support continued employment for the remainder of semester and/or the end of current aid year.
