Lansing Community College

All LCC students are required to meet individual course prerequisites before they can register. The waiver form can be used to obtain placement levels in Reading, Writing, and Math or to receive a prerequisite override based on previous college-level coursework. Please review the Placement Level Equivalency chart to see if you qualify to waive your placement tests. This form can also be used to waive new student orientation for eligible transfer and guest students.

To receive college credit for a course, you must have your official college transcript sent from your previous institution. The waiver process does not grant credit. Visit the Transfer Equivalencies page for more information.

Use the waiver form to submit these documents (unofficial transcripts and score reports are accepted for placement and overrides, but all documentation must include your full name and test date):

  • College transcript (unofficial is acceptable) or proof of degree
  • High school transcript (within 10 years from graduation)
  • SAT, PSAT (if you have not yet taken the SAT), ACT, ASVAB, AP, or CLEP test scores
  • GED test scores (within the last 3 years)

Processing time is one to three business days. Notification of the completion of your request will be sent to your LCC email.

If you do not have access to a copy of your high school transcript or grade report, go to the Parchment website. On the final form waive the FERPA statement and check the box to authorize a copy to be stored in your account.

General Information on course prerequisites and overrides

Prerequisites may be a combination of Reading, Writing, or Math Levels; or they may also include a different course or courses to be taken first. Course prerequisites are listed underneath each course title in the course schedule book or in Banner.  Fill out your intended course in the form if it requires an override.

A completed degree or passing grade(s) in college-level English or mathematics coursework fulfill the requirements for many entry level courses. Some math courses require that the prerequisite math course was completed within the previous two years.  Non-math courses do not follow the two-year rule.  Additional college-level courses may grant reading and/or writing levels.

Requests for prerequisite overrides using a course that is still in progress (without a final grade) will be forwarded to the academic department for review and follow-up.
