Off the Page: From Ink to Air features Lansing Community College students sharing creative and scholarly writing. Through individual presentations and conversations with their peers, students discuss their creative journeys and explore their writing and research processes while connecting their work to real-world issues and communities. The podcast offers listeners a showcase of the creativity, craft, and critical thinking happening inside LCC classrooms.

The Host
Melissa Ford Lucken, a professor of English and creative writing at Lansing Community College where she serves as editor of the Washington Square Review, the college’s literary journal.
Students featured on this podcast come from one of three courses offered at LCC: Creative Writing I, Writer in the Marketplace, and Composition I.
In the creative writing courses, we learn the fundamentals of creative writing, how to participate in writing communities, and how to pursue publishing. Students practice voice development, drafting, revision, and workshopping. In Composition I, we learn the basics of academic writing and scholarly research and how to participate in scholarly academic conversations. Students practice argumentation, research, audience awareness, close reading, and giving and receiving feedback.
In-person writing classes—both creative and academic—are spaces where students share their written work, discuss it, and examine the process behind it, while also engaging in conversations about the work of writing and participating in writing and scholarly communities. The skills they develop can be applied across their academic, professional, creative, and community lives.
