Transfer Credit Earned from Nationally Normed Exams, BP 3.100

1. Purpose

To ensure that the College evaluates the official score reports of nationally normed exams for awarding credit for college-level courses in accordance with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Assumed Practices and with State regulation.

2. Scope

Applies to Lansing Community College (LCC) students requesting credit for national normed exams, Registrar’s Office, and Academic Affairs staff.

3. Prerequisites

The Academic Affairs Project Manager (AAPM), in consultation with pertinent academic program areas and the Registrar’s Office as needed, will determine the minimum score necessary for credit to be awarded and the number of credits to be awarded for each applicable nationally normed exam.

4. Responsibilities

  • Transcript and Academic Record Coordinator (TARC) – Responsible for completing all procedures and adhering to the guidelines for awarding credit.
  • Registrar – Responsible for overseeing the procedure.
  • Academic Affairs Project Manager (AAPM) – In consultation with pertinent academic program areas and the Registrar’s Office as needed, responsible for determining transfer equivalencies for nationally normed exams.
  • Students – Responsible for requesting official score report(s) be sent to the Registrar’s Office.

5. Procedure

  1. Students interested in receiving credit from nationally normed exams must request the official score report(s) be sent to the Registrar’s Office for evaluation.
  2. Based on predetermined equivalencies found on LCC’s Incoming Transfer Credits webpage, the TARC will evaluate official score report(s).
    1. When receiving a previously unevaluated nationally normed exam, the TARC will ask the AAPM for a determination on potential transfer equivalency.
  3. After evaluation, the TARC will add approved credit to the student’s record.
  4. Once processing is complete, the TARC will send the student an official approval/denial notice to their LCC student email.
