Our Purpose
The Cesar Chavez Multicultural Center is a space where diverse cultural, racial, ethnic,
socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations,
and (dis)abilities are recognized and celebrated to promote college access, student
retention and degree completion.
Our Goal
The Cesar Chavez Multicultural Center aspires to lead culturally relevant initiatives
that respond to the unique needs of individual students by enhancing skill-sets and
improving utilization of campus and community resources that foster a sense of belonging.

Rudy Gelista

Rudy Gelista is a Lansing native majoring in transfer studies at Lansing Community College, with
plans to transfer to Michigan State University for accounting. He aspires to become
a financial auditor. Outside of his studies, Rudy enjoys going to the gym and spending
time with friends and family.
Portia Amponsah

Portia Amponsah is an international student from Ghana pursuing a career in nursing at Lansing Community
College. In her free time, she enjoys reading comics, listening to various types of
music, and exploring new experiences.
Lydia Gale

Lydia Gale (She/her/hers) was born and raised in Lansing and is currently majoring in Psychology
at Lansing Community College, with the goal of transferring to Michigan State University.
She is particularly interested in supporting others in the field of mental health
and as of now plans to pursue a career in counseling. Outside of her studies, Lydia
enjoys reading various types of books, traveling, and spending quality time with her
family.
Damien Starks

Damien Starks (he/him/his) moved to Lansing from Buffalo, New York to pursue a career in Veterinary
medicine. He is majoring in zoology at LCC and plans to pursue a Ph.D. at Michigan
State University. He enjoys mixed martial arts and pondering on philosophical questions
in his pursuit to gain a better understanding of the world.
Micah Mitchell

Micah Mitchell is a Lansing native majoring in transfer studies at Lansing Community College, with
plans to transfer to Michigan State University for communications in media. Micah
is considering a career as a broadcast journalist or a public relations specialist.
Outside of his studies, Micah enjoys working out, listening to music, dancing, drawing
and spending time with friends and family.
