What to do if an employee is injured
- Get medical care
- Life-threatening emergency:
- Call 911 and stay with the employee.
- After employee is with paramedics, call HR at 517-483-1870 to report.
- Non-life-threatening injury:
- Call HR at 517-483-1870
- Complete the Employee Injury Treatment Authorization Form
- Send the employee to UMH Occupational Medicine (business hours) or UMH Urgent Care (after hours).
- Life-threatening emergency:
- Make required calls
- Call Human Resources at 517-483-1870
- Call Workers’ Compensation at 517-483-1730 — do not skip this step for serious injuries.
- Workers’ Compensation may be required to report serious injuries to MIOSHA.
- Supervisor, if not already aware.
- Complete an injury report
- Submit the Employee Injury Report Form as soon as practical.
- Expect follow-up
- HR, Workers’ Compensation, and OES may follow up.
- This is routine and helps ensure appropriate care, time off, and support.
- Take care of yourself
- If this incident was stressful for you or your colleagues, support is available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

What to do if a student is injured
- Get help and stay with the student
- Life-threatening emergency: Call 911 immediately.
- Stay with the student until emergency responders arrive.
- After the student is transported, call OES to report 517-483-1812.
- Non-life-threatening injury: Call LCC Police 517-483-1800 for assistance.
- Do not leave an injured or ill student alone in a hallway, restroom, lab, or other space.
- Life-threatening emergency: Call 911 immediately.
- Let LCC Police assist
- LCC Police can help assess the situation and assist the student with contacting a family member, emergency contact, or other support, if needed.
- Complete the Student Injury Report
- Submit the Student Injury Report Form as soon as practical.
- Expect follow-up
- OES may follow up with the instructor, program, or department.
- This is routine and helps ensure appropriate support and documentation.
- Take care of yourself
- If this incident was stressful for you or your colleagues, support is available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
- Students may also contact the LCC Counseling Services for support.
- Get help and stay with the student
