In general, transfer degree types require the 30 credits and minimum 9 courses of the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA). Applied degree types require completion of only 5 courses with a minimum of 15 credits.
Courses in the Applied Communication, Applied Mathematics, Applied Sciences and Technology, and Applied Social Sciences categories do not count toward the MTA and cannot be used for degrees requiring the MTA. In addition, they may not be transferable to other colleges or universities.
It is important that students follow their program pathway when selecting courses as some degrees may have specific general education requirements. Degree and transfer requirements may be revised each academic year. It is highly recommended that students consult with an academic advisor to ensure completion of the degree requirements in the most efficient time frame.

All associate degrees therefore incorporate LCC General Education requirements fostering the capabilities and the flexibility that employers look for, and that citizens of the twenty-first century need. Depending on their chosen degrees, students will successfully complete the options in the appropriate tab above.
Appropriate transfer credit from other colleges and universities, along with credit from Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge International, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST), International Baccalaureate (IB), credit by examination, and credit for experiential learning, is applicable toward LCC General Education requirements for all degrees, including degrees that otherwise would require completion of the full MTA. However, due to statewide rules, areas of prior learning such as Cambridge International, CLEP, DSST, IB, credit by examination, and credit for experiential learning are not applicable to the MTA endorsement at this time.
Transfer degrees (Mta)
A course that is transferred to LCC from another college or university and is not equivalent to a specific LCC course may be used to satisfy MTA if it is a general education course, fits into one of the MTA areas, and meets LCC's MTA Guidelines. To have such a course considered for MTA, complete and submit the MTA Course Substitution Request form to the Academic Affairs Office.
Courses taken before Fall Semester 1993 will not automatically satisfy the MTA requirement. To request the use of these courses, complete and submit the MTA Course Substitution Request form.
