Neurodivergent students celebrated in LCC employees’ conference presentation
Three LCC employees traveled to Putney, Vermont, in June to learn from and present at Landmark College’s Summer Institute, an annual event for education professionals to refresh their skills for supporting neurodivergent students.
The employees shared how LCC has centered listening, learning and leading with empathy in building a neurodivergent-friendly campus, placing particular emphasis on student experiences. Presenters were Associate Vice President Toni Glasscoe, Psychology Professor Diane Snyder, and Social Science and Humanities Program Advisor and Psychology Professor Kristin Houck, alongside Capital Area College Access Network Executive Director Michele Strasz.
Landmark College was the perfect host for the Summer Institute because the school is designed for students who learn differently. It opened in 1985, offering its students personal assistance, a wide array of academic support and individualized classroom instruction.
Landmark’s Institute for Research and Training also partnered with LCC early in our Neurodivergent-Friendly Campus work to provide customized recommendations for how we can better serve all students, including those who are neurodivergent.
