LCC Board of Trustees approves $500,000 to expand student food pantry
The LCC Board of Trustees recently voted to allocate an additional $500,000 to the student food pantry and $200,000 to expand the laptop lending program.
The food pantry currently provides ready-to-eat options, including microwavable meals, granola bars, fruit cups and other snacks, to any student in need. It serves the Downtown, West and East campus locations, as well as Mason Aviation. The additional $500,000 from the Board of Trustees will allow the college to add more hours of availability as well as explore expanding food options.
The Library’s laptop lending program offers 1,000 laptops at the Downtown Campus and 100 at West Campus. Current students may check out an HP ProBook for a full semester, on a first-come, first-served basis. The $200,000 allocated by the Board of Trustees will enable the college to purchase an additional 100 laptops for student borrowing at West Campus and to provide 25 laptops to support the new TRIO Student Support Services.
Approval of the additional funds originated with a September 2025 Trustee-Generated Idea from Chair Angela Mathews. Following a needs analysis, the food pantry and the laptop lending program were selected for funding to expand resources available to students.
The college thanks the Board of Trustees for approving this funding. This impactful investment will transform opportunities for students and significantly advance access, equity and success.
