LANSING, Mich. – The Lansing Community College Board of Trustees officially welcomed their new trustees during an oath of office ceremony at the Jan. 27 Board of Trustees meeting.

The Honorable Shauna Dunnings of the 30th Circuit Court administered the oath for Trustees Terrence Frazier, Chatum Taylor, and Hope Lovell, and the Honorable Molly Hennessey Greenwalt of the 54-B District Court administered the oath for Trustee Noel Garcia Jr. The Honorable Kristen Simmons of the 54-A District Court was delayed due to courtroom obligations but was able to join the ceremony.

Trustees voted to elect new officers for the Board for the 2025-2026 term. Trustee Mathews was re-elected chair, Trustee Frazier was elected vice chair, Trustee Proctor was re-elected treasurer and Trustee Thomas was re-elected secretary.

Trustees Frazier and Garcia return to the Board after being appointed to fill vacancies in January 2024. Both were elected to the trusteeship in the November 2024 general election.

“I look forward to working with this distinguished group of leaders,” said LCC President Steve Robinson. “All of our trustees share a deep commitment to the values of higher education and helping our students succeed. I welcome their diverse perspectives and experiences.”

Trustee Hope Lovell was sworn into her first term on the LCC board and brings a wealth of experience, including over 15 years as executive director of LoveJoy Community Services and extensive experience in investment banking and portfolio management. She is well-versed in board governance and received the Excellence in Governance Award from Modern Healthcare in 2023. Lovell holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan.

Trustee Chatum Taylor, an alumna of LCC, was also sworn into her first term. She offers a lengthy background in the financial industry, including her current role with Lake Trust Credit Union. Previously, she oversaw the CASE Credit Union in LCC’s Gannon Building and supported students in various aspects of life, all while fostering meaningful relationships within the LCC community. A dedicated community advocate, Taylor has a passion for helping others through ministry. She has prior board experience and currently serves as the treasurer of the City Rescue Mission Board. Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix.

“I am proud to serve on the most diverse Board of Trustees in LCC’s history, beside these intelligent, dedicated men and women of color,” Chair Mathews said. “I am excited to work with them to ensure LCC’s students receive the best education in an atmosphere of inclusion and belonging.”
