Lansing Community College is committed to being an environment where every student, employee and community member feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. Guided by pillars of Love, Respect, and Support, the Office of Empowerment works to strengthen belonging, celebrate culture and diversity, and create opportunities for all members in our community to thrive.
We carry out this work through four interconnected focus areas within the Office of Empowerment. Together, these provide leadership and operational support, advance equitable practices and advocacy, strengthen student engagement and belonging, and create opportunities for learning and growth in a culture of care:
1. Administration
Administration provides leadership, operational support, and coordination to ensure the Office of Empowerment remains responsive to the needs of the college community.
2. Advocacy and Equity
Through Advocacy and Equity, we engage the campus in conversations, awareness activities, and cultural experiences that strengthen understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and perspectives. We also promote equitable practices, address barriers to success, and serve as an advocate for students and employees by connecting individuals with resources and encouraging systemic solutions that support success for all.
3. Multicultural Engagement
Through Multicultural Engagement, we support student success by creating spaces for students to connect, receive mentoring, build community, and celebrate the cultures, identities, and experiences that enrich campus life through student-led and department-sponsored activities and events.
4. Training
Through Training, we provide educational opportunities focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and culture to help members of the Lansing Community College (LCC) community develop the knowledge and skills needed to work, learn, and lead effectively in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. In doing so, we promote understanding, personal and professional growth, and a culture of care.
