The Cesar Chavez Learning Center’s LUCERO program activities are free and open to all registered LCC students. Programming is focused on embracing Latino students, connecting them to the LCC community and equipping them excel through:
- Mentorship
- Cultural Celebrations
- Leadership Opportunities
- Academic Support
- Skill Development
Moreover, LUCERO is a dedicated support program committed to:
- Fostering a positive and inclusive environment, particularly for students of color, with a specific focus on Latino students;
- Creating a strong and positive sense of community among Latino students;
- Celebrating and embracing the rich cultural diversity within the Latino community; and
- Providing opportunities for students to build strong connections with each other and with LCC, enabling them to connect and engage meaningfully within the broader college community.
The word "Lucero" means morning star, evening star, bright star, brilliance.
The acronym stands for: Latinos United with Energy, Respect and Pride
Student Program Registration Form
LUCERO Members
LCC students interested in becoming LUCERO members are required to complete the Registration Form and participate in programming throughout the school year as follows:
- Attend two LUCERO meetings each fall and spring semester (Students who are also members of ACCESS, MAP, and/or WISE only need to attend one LUCERO meeting each semester);
- Meet with assigned Academic Success Coach once per fall and spring semester;
- Meet with assigned Academic Advisor once per fall and spring semester, unless a multi-semester academic map exists;
- Participate in one community service activity or event hosted by an LCC registered student organization once per academic year.
- Attend one study table or tutoring opportunity (hosted by Cesar Chavez Learning Center, or by the Library and Learning Commons) per fall and spring semester. LUCERO Meetings
LUCERO meetings take place once per month from 3-5 p.m. at the CCLC, located in the Arts & Sciences Building, Room 1313. Program dates for Fall and Spring Semesters of academic year 2023/2024 are listed in the calendar of events below.
ODI programming is free and open to all LCC students. Food and/or snacks will be provided during each meeting. All students are welcome to attend. Registration is not required.
LUCERO Joint Meetings
LUCERO Students will be invited to attend joint meetings with students who participate in MAP, ACCESS, and WISE. These special meetings will take place at the Cesar Chavez Learning Center throughout the semester.

*Graduating LUCERO students will be celebrated by Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) staff. Students receiving an overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher will qualify to receive a special LUCERO recognition gift to be worn during the graduation ceremony denoting personal achievement and involvement with LUCERO.
*The same Registration Form can be used to register for all programs offered by the Cesar Chavez Learning Center. Students only need to complete one Registration Form.

La palabra "Lucero" significa
estrella de la mañana, estrella vespertina, estrella brillante, esplendor.
Las siglas significan:
Latinos Unidos Con Energía, Respeto y Orgulla
LUCERO es un programa de servicios de apoyo diseñado para ayudar en el reclutamiento, retención, graduación y transferencia de estudiantes de color de Lansing Community College (LCC), particularmente estudiantes latinos.
El enfoque del programa LUCERO es crear una conexión positiva entre los estudiantes latinos y con LCC para desarrollar habilidades académicas, de liderazgo y profesionales excepcionales mientras aprenden y celebran su cultura y diversidad.
LUCERO ofrece asistencia a los estudiantes a través de las operaciones y el liderazgo a través de la Oficina de Diversidad e Inclusión (ODI) en LCC. Con la guía de ODI, los estudiantes de LUCERO tienen la oportunidad de participar en una experiencia que mejora su vida universitaria en LCC.
LOS PARTICIPANTES DEL PROGRAMA LUCERO ESTÁN OBLIGATORIOS A:
- Estar inscrito como estudiante en LCC
- Reunirse con el Coordinador del Programa LUCERO
- Estar trabajando para obtener un certificado de logros, un título de asociado y/o un programa de transferencia
Beneficios de Membresía
Brindamos un espacio acogedor en el Centro de aprendizaje Cesar Chavez (CCLC) que está ubicado en el edificio de Artes y Ciencias, salón 1313. Los estudiantes pueden recibir apoyo académico y social, enfocarse en desarrollar habilidades académicas, liderazgo y profesionalismo. Queremos asegurarnos de que los estudiantes de LUCERO se gradúen, transfieran y/o sean retenidos. Se alienta a los estudiantes a participar en al menos un taller, evento o actividad cada semestre para obtener la experiencia LUCERO completa.
