General Information
What is dual enrollment?
Dual enrollment allows high school students to take college courses at LCC while earning
credits that may count toward both high school and college graduation. It’s an opportunity
for academic enrichment, particularly in subjects not offered at your high school.
Who is eligible?
- Must be working toward high school graduation
- Must have completed 8th grade by the first day of the LCC semester
I attend a private school. How does Dual Enrollment work for me?
The process is the same as other students, but billing is different. You complete the Dual Enrollment Approval Form and indicate your school is responsible for payment. LCC bills the State of Michigan instead of your school. Any remaining balance is your responsibility, you’ll get a bill notification in your LCC email.
I am homeschooled. How does Dual Enrollment work for me?
The process is the same as other students. The Dual Enrollment Approval Form will inform us that you are homeschooled and whether you will self-pay or have received approval from your school district. You will receive an email in your LCC student email each time a new statement is available.
Application and Enrollment
How do I apply for dual enrollment?
- Apply to LCC using our online application.
- Activate your LCC account to access your student email and information.
- Establish course placement by submitting PSAT or SAT/ACT scores to LCC Testing Services. If unavailable, take LCC placement tests.
- Complete the Dual Enrollment Approval Form, which must be signed by a parent/guardian and high school official.
Where do I find the Dual Enrollment Approval Form?
The form is on LCC’s High School Dual enrollment website, under Step 4: Approval Form. Students must be logged into their Banner account
to access it.
Do I need a new form each semester?
Yes. A new form must be submitted each time you want to register for or drop a course,
so we know what classes you want to register for. The form also allows your parents
and school to approve courses you selected.
Do I need to redo placement scores each semester?
No. Placement levels are established once and do not need to be resubmitted. Unless
you have earned a higher score or want to retake the placement test to meet a certain
placement level.
FERPA and Privacy
What is FERPA?
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects student
educational records. Once you become an LCC student, your academic and financial information
cannot be shared with anyone, even if you are under 18—including parents, guardians,
or spouses—without your written permission.
Do parents have access to my records or bill?
Not automatically. To give LCC permission to share your information with a designated
person, you will need to fill out the Release of Information (FERPA) form.
The form allows you to add, remove, or change designees and specify what information they can access.
Courses, Registration and Drops
How do I choose which classes to take?
- For high school credit: Work with your high school counselor to select approved courses.
- For college credit: Follow the General Education/MTA Guide (most courses transfer) or consult LCC Academic Advising for a specific pathway.
- Review course offerings to see the classes we offer for an upcoming semester.
How do I register for courses?
- Follow steps on the High School Dual Enrollment website.
- Complete the Dual Enrollment Approval Form with your chosen courses.
- Parent and high school counselor review and approve the form.
- The Dual Enrollment Office registers you for approved courses.
Can I drop or change classes after registering?
Yes. Submit a new Dual Enrollment Approval Form to drop or change courses. Note: Drops
are backdated to the students’ submission date.
Can I waitlist for a full class?
No. Dual enrolled students cannot be waitlisted. Submit forms only for courses with
available seats to maximize your chances of enrollment.
Can I take online classes?
Yes. Dual enrolled students can enroll in in-person, hybrid, or online courses.
How many classes can I take?
Consult your high school counselor to determine how many classes they will approve
for you.
Tuition, Billing and Holds
Who is responsible for tuition and fees?
- High School - Paid: Some districts pay for all or part of tuition. Check with your counselor.
- Self-Payment: You are responsible for any remaining balance after school or state payment.
How do I view my billing statement?
- If you receive a statement, log in to myLCC > Banner > Student > Student Finance > Student Statement > View Statement. Statements are usually available after the day you register.
- If your school is paying, you usually don’t need to do anything. Still, check your statement before the end of the semester and contact Student Finance if there’s a remaining balance.
What are holds and how do they affect enrollment?
Holds are placed on student accounts for various reasons and may prevent you from registering for classes.
- Parent/High School Permission Hold: Prevents self-registration until you turn 18 or graduate. This is normal, which is why we require you to fill out the Dual Enrollment Approval Form.
- Balance Due Hold: Blocks registration if tuition is unpaid. Reach out to Student Finance for assistance.
- Student Financial Responsibility Hold: Does not prevent registration for high school students. Hold goes away once student accepts responsibility in Banner, however, this is not required.
Will I be dropped for unpaid tuition or non-attendance?
- Tuition: No, unpaid tuition will not drop you from a course.
- Attendance: Yes, students are expected to attend and participate from the first day of class. Students get dropped automatically after 2 weeks of non-participation
Do I need a payment plan?
Optional. Payment plans help manage self-paid tuition. Consult Student Finance for details.
Do I need to pay for textbooks?
Each course/section is different. Some may require you to purchase a textbook, while
others may use Open Educational Resources (OER), which helps reduce costs. Check with
your district for assistance if needed.
LCC Student Resources
Do I have an LCC student email?
Yes. Starting Fall 2026, LCC Gmail is the primary method of official communication,
including registration, billing, and course updates. Check it regularly.
