The study of religion can lead to a career as a member of the clergy, a religious education director, or a counselor.
Beyond that, however, the study of world religions across space and time leads to a greater understanding of different cultures, people, and ways of thinking about the world and humanity's place in it. The study of one's own and other people's religion can both deepen faith and expand the horizons of what is meant by religion, spirituality, and humankind's relationship to the transcendent. It can help to answer the fundamental questions of humankind.
Students who want to become truly well-educated would do well to include the study of the liberal arts, including religion, in their educational plans.

History, Humanities, and English, AA
Overview
This major is designed for students wishing to transfer to a four-year college or university, with three primary programs to explore: History, English, or Humanities. Within the Career Community and Limited Choice blocks, a student will find courses that are common to the History-, English-, or Humanities-focused majors at area colleges and universities and allow a student to take courses across those disciplines with confidence that earned credits will transfer to most colleges and universities associated with LCC. Designed for students desiring to major in fields related to Art History, History, Literature, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Humanities, or Religious Studies.
Not all courses in the pathways may transfer to all colleges. Students should consult their transfer school(s) and Michigan Transfer Network for up-to-date transfer information.

Religious Studies, AA
Overview
Religious studies approaches the investigation of world religions with the attitude that a fundamental understanding of the values and beliefs of the world's peoples is necessary for an educated person who wants to be an informed and responsible citizen. Much of our planet's art, literature, political and social systems, science and technology have a basis in religion. Religious studies attempts to demonstrate those important connections. Furthermore, history is filled with uncountable religious wars, persecution and intolerance stemming from religious bias. Studying the world's religions openly and without prejudice can do no less than help students acquire a greater awareness of and appreciation for the diversity and unity of world religions.
