LCC creates workgroups dedicated to building Neurodivergent-Friendly Campus
LCC is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment for all students, including those who are neurodivergent. To that end, we have brought together 60 internal and external stakeholders to focus on three areas of improvement:
- Building Professional Development Pathways: Identify professional learning pathways that build campus-wide understanding of neurodivergence, equip faculty and staff with practical strategies, and ensure the sustainability of inclusive practices.
- Social Integration, Inclusion and Community Building: Foster belonging and reduce stigma for neurodivergent students while strengthening relationships among students, faculty and staff (by expanding peer support, inclusive programming and neurodivergence awareness).
- Sensory-Friendly Environments: Improve physical spaces and sensory experiences across all LCC campuses to reduce overstimulation, increase comfort, and ensure that neurodivergent students and employees can thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
These priorities emerged from a report by some of the best researchers in the field, from Landmark College’s Institute for Research and Training. These experts reviewed our policies, talked to our students and employees, and visited our spaces to provide recommendations.
Now, our workgroups are carrying the work forward. They began meeting Feb. 3, with the goal of presenting one or two concrete recommendations to the college by May 2026. Stay tuned for details!
In addition, a team of high school and college educators and student support professionals will attend the Landmark College Summer Institute in June 2026 to present, learn and observe best practices for educating and championing neurodivergent students.
