How to sign up for multi-factor authentication
Your student account will require multi-factor authentication beginning March 4, 2026.
Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, is a security process that requires users to provide both a password and a second form of authentication – typically a one-time use code – to access a website or account. Adding multi-factor authentication to student accounts strengthens the data security safeguards already in place to protect personal information.
LCC will use an MFA service called Duo Security the first time you log into services
like D2L and Banner each day.
Here’s how you can sign up:
- Check your LCC Gmail for a Feb. 18 email from Duo Security (no-reply@duosecurity.com) with the subject line “Duo Security Enrollment.” It’s easiest to do this on a laptop or other device, separate from your smartphone.
- Using your laptop, click the enrollment link in your email and follow the prompts. When your screen asks “How would you like to verify your identity?”, select Duo Mobile app and add your phone number.
- On your smartphone, download the Duo Mobile app.
- Use the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone to scan the QR code that appears on your laptop screen. (If you are using your smartphone rather than a separate laptop to enroll in MFA, you will not be able to scan the QR code. Select “Use activation link instead.” Then, go to your LCC student Gmail and open the activation link.)
Once you have enrolled, you will not have to complete the daily MFA push alert process
to access LCC systems until March 4, 2026, when LCC enforces MFA.
