Important change to math placement scores

We’re improving our placement process!

Beginning in spring 2026, new math placement scores will be used when you register for your non-math classes. These new Math Skills Levels will be used to denote how much math knowledge is needed in non-math classes.

Students with a current Math Level 4 or above will automatically be converted to a Math Skills Level based on their current level.

Incoming or returning students without a current Math Level will have their Math Skills Level determined using high school GPA or various test scores through LCC’s Testing Center. The possible Math Skills Levels are:

  • Fundamental (MSL 0)
  • College-Ready with Support (MSL 10)
  • College-Ready (MSL 20)

For more information, please review this Guide to the New Math Skills Levels.

You can see both your new Math Skills Level and your old Math Level (prior to 2026) by:

  • Logging in at my.lcc.edu
  • Clicking “Profile” in the blue hamburger menu (or the blue bar, if you’re on a laptop)
  • Looking in the “Placement Levels” box

Importantly, if you do not currently have an old Math Level of 4 or higher, a high school GPA or 2.5 or higher, or a GED math score of 165 or higher, you will not be assigned a new Math Skills Level. Contact Testing Services for information regarding placement, or contact Academic Advising for help with which classes you should take.
