Legendary Leadership: Mike Ingram at Lansing’s College

On March 21, Lansing Community College men’s basketball defeated Johnson County Community College 104-93 in Danville, Illinois, in the NJCAA Division II national championship consolation bracket to finish its season seventh in the country.

The victory serves as a fitting capstone to a memorable season of dominance. In addition to a 28-8 record and a top-10 national finish, LCC won the Great Lakes District C championship. Sophomore Zander Woodruff was named NJCAA Region XII all-region, all-MCCAA, first-team All-Western Conference and, after a 41-point effort in the season finale, to the NJCAA Division II all-tournament team. Woodruff also led the conference in scoring and field goal percentage.

Other Stars also made significant contributions this season: DeAndre Berry and Lamont Green-Torbert were named second- and third-team All-Western Conference, respectively, and Ben Smith received an honorable mention. Berry also earned all-freshman conference honors, and DeAire Lee was named to the conference all-defensive team.

This success — born out of dedication to year-round work — stems from a tradition established by LCC’s head coach, 2026 MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year Mike Ingram.

Ingram has been with LCC men’s basketball since 1988, when LCC won the national championship, and has served as head coach since 1990. On Feb. 2, LCC defeated Southwestern Michigan 100-76 to record Ingram’s 700th win as head coach. A Basketball Coaches of Michigan and NJCAA of Michigan Hall of Famer, Ingram has won 20 conference championships.
The Stars’ seventh-place finish this season adds to other strong national performances, as Ingram’s teams have previously finished in the top 10 four times. Ingram has been named MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year 20 times and Region 12 Coach of the Year four times.

Basketball fan and LCC President Steve Robinson understands the impact of Ingram’s dedication and longevity.

“Coach Ingram’s success represents decades of leadership, integrity and commitment to excellence,” Robinson said. “His influence extends far beyond the court, and we are proud to celebrate his many incredible achievements.”

An All-American as a player at LCC, Ingram has guided nine LCC athletes to that national honor during his tenure and has provided foundational instruction for countless athletes who advanced to four-year colleges and universities after their careers in Lansing.

“I have a great job, and it gives me a chance to help so many kids,” Ingram said. “And I still have a burning fire to coach.”
