LCC recognizes Black History Month

LANSING, Mich., Jan. 31, 2025 - LCC is proud to recognize Black History Month Feb. 1-28, 2025.
LCC celebrates diversity 365, but we pause with the nation this February to highlight the many accomplishments and achievements made by African Americans.
Since 1928, The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) has provided the theme for Black History Month (BHM). The 2025 theme is African Americans and Labor, and will focus on the contributions and experiences of Black people in the workforce across various sectors and time periods.
LCC will host a series of BHM events including the Malcolm X Symposium which has been held annually for many years. It will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 on the Downtown Campus.
The symposium will feature student presentations of creative writing and spoken word, music and cultural performances, and a panel discussion featuring local union representatives in keeping with the 2025 national theme.
The rich legacy and opportunities offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will be explored during a panel discussion at the HBCU Experience 2025 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 on the Downtown Campus.
The benefits of attending an HBCU, the transfer process, and available resources to help students achieve their academic and career goals will be explored.
LCC is committed to celebrating the significant contributions, heritage, and resilience of Black Americans in our country.
