Retiree Recognition For: Pamela Davis

Title / Dept:
Counselor / Center for Student Support

Counselor / Center for Student Support
In the 90's I worked for Michigan Rehabilitation Services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. My primary caseload was clients with hearing loss. As a result I became the liaison to LCC and MSU offices that coordinated accommodations for students with disabilites. When a positition within the Office of Disability Support Services opened at LCC I applied and was hired. This led to a wonderful career with LCC! I was a counselor in ODSS for 18 years and then moved to a general counseling position for the last 12 plus years.
I am blessed to have the option to continue my mental health counseling career in "retirement." I enjoy the profession and am excited to continue in the field by joining a private practice, Viewpointe Counseling in Ionia, MI. Setting my own schedule will be a bonus. Having a flexible schedule with the option of remote sessions will allow me to spend more time in Frankfort Mi and travel with friends.
I don't remember much about my first day or week as it was over 30 years ago. But I do remember joking for several months by asking "how long can I say I'm new to the position?"
In addition to ODSS and Counseling I taught Deaf Culture, Elimination of Self Defeating Behavior and, most recently, Stress Management. Teaching has given me the oportunity to connect with LCC students in a different way.
Most of my favorite memories are related to the friendships I've developed over the years that continue to this day! I've also enjoyed seeing students grow and succeed in their persona and academic life. Occassionally I hear from a student as to how counseling impacted their life in a positive way. It's been a priviledge being part of their journey and it's what inspires me to to continue working part time in retirement.

Pam has been a great team player though out her career. She has given so much of her life to LCC. Our students and staff have benefited significantly, I am convinced that she has saved many lives over the past 30+ years. We are going to miss her, she has a lot of experience and I know for sure that our staff and students will miss having her around. I am very happy for Pam, I wish her the best in the next chapter of her life.
Pam: Thank you for your many years of service, it has been an honor serving next to you.
