Reflections on Employment
How did you get your start at LCC? What do you remember most from your first day/week/month?
A formal coworker of mine was working at LCC and told me a position as a nursing instructor was available and she wondered if I would be interested. I checked it out, applied for the position and was hired. It was a different experience for me and initially I had to get used to being the instructor and not the student and to get confident in how they wanted the nursing labs taught and how to do the clinicals.
Have you held different positions at LCC? How would you describe your career path and the role that LCC played in it?
Initially a clinical and lab instructor for the Part time nursing program. Then I worked in the full time nursing program as a clinical/lab instructor and also worked with the students who had degrees in other areas and now wanted to be a nurse. I had my BSN when I was hired and later obtained my MSN.
What's your favorite memory from your time at LCC? Who are the people who made working here great?
Watching the students grow in confidence and knowledge as they moved forward in the program and how well they did working with their patients. When my students would find something while doing their assessment of the patient that the staff was not aware of. It helped them see the importance of what they were doing and how they should take care of their patients.
What were your greatest accomplishments or successes while working at LCC?
Seeing students learn and apply what they have been taught and me being able to help them accomplish this.
What are you looking forward to in your retirement? What plans are you most excited for?
Having time to do more things with my family, (kids and grandkids) and to be able to travel to some of the places on our bucket list.

What's your favorite memory of this employee? Do you have any other positive thoughts to share about this individual?
Lou was a compassionate and caring faculty who ensured students were supported in many ways, not just from the nursing knowledge standpoint. I appreciate her support not only with the nursing students, but with new faculty support! In reaching out to her long time lab instructor partner, Meg, she shared the following memory: My favorite memory working with Lou was when a nursing student shot Lou in the face when preparing her saline flush syringe during evaluation. Lou's face got every bit of that 5ml syringe!
