How did you get your start at LCC?  What do you remember most from your first day/week/month?

I moved back to Michigan from New Mexico in 2001 and began working in 2002 as Lead Support in the Social Science & Humanities Department.  On my first day, I remember that all the faculty, staff, and administrators made me feel very welcome with a potluck lunch.  I vividly remember the tour of the campus during my first week and feeling sure I’d never be able to find my way around!  I think about that every time I’m giving a tour to new employees.  I had a lot to learn but everyone at LCC was great and I made some lifelong friends when I was in that position.

Have you held different positions at LCC? How would you describe your career path and the role that LCC played in it?

My entire LCC career has been in the A&S Division.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to work my way up from support staff to Executive Assistant to the Dean to the Division’s Project Coordinator.  I could not have done that without the support of both Elaine Pogoncheff and Andrea Hoagland.

What's your favorite memory from your time at LCC? Who are the people who made working here great?

My favorite memories at LCC are with the friends I’ve made along the way.   I’ve been through 25 Fall Kickoffs here at LCC and every single one was stressful but exciting.  The faculty, the staff, the administrators, and the students have really made this job special to me and I was lucky enough to work with people from different divisions and departments all over the college.  I’ll never be able to name them all individually here but please know that I appreciate each and every one of you.

I’ve worked with my friends in Physical Plant on big and small projects including the remodeling of the A&S Building, Dart Auditorium, the planetarium projector, and we just finished up the easiest one yet, replacing most of the chemical fume hoods on the 4th floor.  I’m thankful for their patience with me and their kind help over the years.

What are you looking forward to in your retirement? What plans are you most excited for?

I’m excited to do whatever the heck I want!  I’ll be able to spend more time with my husband, Alex, and my daughter, son-in-law, and my grandsons.  I’m planning to work on projects around the house, take some classes, and volunteering.  I can’t wait for this new chapter.

What's your favorite memory of this employee? Do you have any other positive thoughts to share about this individual?

I’ve really enjoyed working with Amy. I think my favorite memory would be when we first started working together. I was brand new to the interim Dean position and she really helped me figure out how to be the Dean. 

Along with being a delightful and talented person to work with Amy also made a number of important contributions to our division and to the college. Amy develops our A&S Weekly Update as well as the Special Edition that comes out each fall. Amy led our efforts to make all of our documents accessible and also leads efforts to assist faculty with making their course materials accessible. Amy helped me to build, and then she continuously ran, our First Year Introduction (FYI) program for all new faculty and staff in Arts and Sciences. Amy made sure all of our processes for the division are documented and reviewed annually. In recent years, Amy became our connection to facilities and IT for all renovation projects in the division. These projects are too numerous to list, but some larger recent ones were Dart, the Costume shop, and our Chemistry hood replacements. Another important and lasting impression that Amy will leave are all of the LCC staff whom she mentored over the years.
