LCC is committed to providing a safe environment for its students, faculty, and staff in support of its educational mission. As a part of the hiring process, a successful criminal background check (CBC) is needed. LCC HR utilizes a third-party vendor, HireRight, to conduct CBCs for administrators, faculty, support, specialized professional services and student employees, as well as, volunteers and interns.
CBCs are needed for the following reasons:
- Position change for an employee group
- New hire
- Rehire

PageUp and HireRight Integration
The integration between PageUp Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and HireRight allows the criminal background check to be initiated within PageUp and candidates will automatically receive an email notification from HireRight to complete their CBC forms.

LCC Human Resources Responsibilities
Reviews CBC results and assesses eligibility.
- The assessment of a candidate’s criminal history will take into account:
- The nature and gravity of any criminal offense(s);
- The quantity and type of offense (felony, misdemeanor, traffic violations, etc.);
- The sentence or sanction for the offense and compliance with the sanction(s);
- The amount of time that has passed since the offense and/or completion of the sentence(s);
- Whether there is a pattern of offenses;
- Whether the offense arose in connection with the applicant’s prior employment;
- Information supplied by the applicant about the offense(s);
- Subsequent criminal activity; and
- Truthfulness of the applicant in disclosing the offense(s).
Notifies individuals who do not have satisfactory CBC results and provides opportunity for explanation/clarification before a final decision regarding eligibility is made. If individuals are deemed ineligible, a formal decision letter will be sent to the address provided on the authorization form.
- LCC HR may consult with the department to evaluate the relevancy of the applicant’s criminal history to the position the candidate is seeking. LCC HR may also consult with leadership, LCC PD and/or Risk Management & Legal Services.
- Notifies department via email for those that are not eligible for hire.
- Performs applicable record keeping.
HireRight Questions and Answers
- What information will Hire Right request?
Hire Right will request your current name, previous names for the last seven years, social security number, date of birth, current address, and previous addresses for the last seven years. Hire Right will also request information about previous criminal convictions, giving you the opportunity to self-report prior criminal convictions.
Hire Right provides disclosures, acknowledgements, and consent forms and will request that they be executed electronically. The disclosures/acknowledgements will include your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA); the consent form will grant Hire Right authorization to check your criminal history.
Quick Tips:
- Please use your full legal name.
- If you do not have a social security number, please check the box “I don’t have a Social Security Number”.
- If you do not have a middle name, enter “N/A.”
- If you are not a citizen of the United States, the background check vendor, GIS, may request a copy of your passport.
- If a state requires fingerprinting to verify background check records, fingerprinting costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.
- Is my personal information secure?
Hire Right states that information requested or transmitted, such as social security numbers, undergo 128-bit secure socket layer, which is an accepted industry standard encryption method. - What about my privacy?
Hire Right is regulated by federal and state laws designed to protect your privacy. To ensure your privacy, Hire Right will request that you create a unique login identifier and password to initiate the background check process. - What if I disagree with the background check results?
The FCRA grants you the right to dispute the results of your background check. Hire Right will provide you complete information and instructions about how to dispute the background check results. Hire Right will also provide you information about how to request a copy of your background check results.
Current Employee/Volunteer Self-Disclosure
Individuals currently employed, volunteering, or engaged by the College are required to notify Human Resources of arrests, charges, convictions, or events within three (3) business days or at the earliest possible opportunity by using the Criminal Charges or Conviction Disclosure form.
A criminal arrest, charge, or conviction is not in and of itself grounds for termination. However, failure to disclose such information, or making any misrepresentation in connection with the disclosure, may be grounds for termination.
