Payer Matrix

Program Overview

Beginning July 1, 2026, you may have access to the Payer Matrix specialty medication savings program if enrolled in a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) Traditional PPO plans.

If eligible, the program is designed to help you reduce out-of-pocket costs for your high-cost specialty medication(s). This is done by helping you take advantage of available manufacturer assistance and prescription savings programs.

Key Messages:

This program is intended to help lower prescription costs.

The goal of the program is to help those eligible access available financial assistance resources that may significantly reduce, or even eliminate, the cost of their specialty medications.

Members will continue to receive support throughout the process.

Eligible members who are contacted by Payer Matrix will work directly with a dedicated Reimbursement Care Coordinator who will help:

  • Explain the program
  • Assist with required paperwork
  • Coordinate with their providers
  • Support continued access to medication

This program is only available through BCBSM Traditional PPO plans.

This enhanced specialty prescription savings opportunity through Payer Matrix is available exclusively to members enrolled in a BCBSM Traditional PPO plan.

Not all members will be impacted.

Only members enrolled in a BCBSM Traditional PPO plan taking certain qualifying specialty medications will be contacted regarding the program.

Members should respond if contacted.

      Participation in this program is required for eligible members. If contacted by Payer Matrix, timely response is important to ensure there are no delays in medication access and prescription benefit savings.

 Why is this change happening?

Specialty medications are one of the fastest-growing healthcare costs nationwide. This program helps those who qualify access manufacturer-funded assistance programs while helping manage long-term plan costs for all employees of our organization.

Will my medication change?

No. The program is designed to help you continue receiving your prescribed medication(s) while exploring available cost-saving options.

Will I still receive support if I qualify?

Yes. If eligible, you are assigned a dedicated Reimbursement Care Coordinator who helps guide you through the process and coordinates ongoing support.

What if I am contacted by Payer Matrix?

If you are contacted directly, that means you are eligible for the program and have potential savings opportunities. The Payer Matrix care team will provide you with instructions and next steps.

Will I need to provide personal information?

Some manufacturer assistance programs require certain personal or income-related information as part of the application process. Information required for the program is kept confidential.

Is my personal and medical information safe?

Yes. Payer Matrix operates in compliance with HIPAA and all applicable privacy laws. Your information is only used to coordinate your care and access available assistance programs.

Do I have to participate in this? What happens if I don’t?

Yes. Participation is required for eligible members. If you are contacted, you must respond and complete the requested steps. If you do not participate, there is a risk of delays or disruptions in medication coverage, as this program is part of how your prescription benefit is administered.

Will this delay access to my medications?

The goal of the program is to avoid delays and ensure continued access to your medication. You will be supported by a dedicated care coordinator who works to keep the process moving and minimize any disruption. Responding promptly is the best way to ensure there are no delays.

What do I actually have to do? How much time will this take?

If you are contacted:

  • Respond promptly to outreach from Payer Matrix
  • Complete any required forms
  • Provide requested information

A dedicated care coordinator will guide you through each step and help with paperwork and coordination.

What if my application is denied after completing the process?

If your initial application is denied, your Reimbursement Care Coordinator will restate your position of eligibility and request the denial to be overturned. They will work with you to gather additional information if needed for the appeal.

If after the appeal you are not eligible for alternative funding programs, your medication will continue to be covered under your standard prescription benefit. Your Reimbursement Care Coordinator will guide you to continue regular access via BCBSM’s PillarRx program for your medications.
