The first Social Sciences and Humanities Seminar for this spring begins Thursday, Jan. 22. The seminar is a six-week non-credit seminar for LCC students who are planning to transfer to a four-year institution and study social sciences and humanities. Over the six meetings, students will learn about six different topics: foundations and digital organization, transfer pathway planning and advising, personal statements and campus exploration, professional development materials, applications and financial planning, and finalizing the transfer journey.
The seminars are structured to incorporate different learning styles through, collaborative activities and individual worktime.
The seminar aims to provide a dedicated space for students to focus on themselves and their future. According to the program advisors Kristen Houck and Erin Luppo, witnessing students build confidence in making informed decisions about their goals is one of their favorite parts about the seminar.
The seminar can help students by offering guidance in developing digital portfolios, creating personalized transfer checklists, crafting personal statements, navigating financial aid/scholarships and connecting with four-year institutions.
These sessions are located at the Downtown Campus in the Arts and Sciences building. It is a pass or no pass course requiring 70% attendance. To register, a student must be a social science or humanities major and have acquired advisor approval. Advisor contact information is listed on the LCC webpage for the event.
The seminar is offered in two sessions this spring. The first session begins Jan. 22 and meets every Thursday from 10:10 a.m. – noon until Feb. 26. The second session begins March 18 and meets every Wednesday from 2:10 – 4 p.m. until April 22.
