At LCC, diversity and history are important for students attending the college. In fact, there is a future event that gives students the opportunity to showcase this. On Feb. 19, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Michigan Room, the Malcolm X Symposium is taking place. The symposium is a creative showcase that focuses on using creative expressions to honor Malcolm X’s legacy.

Students are invited to participate in a special student talent segment to help celebrate this year’s theme: 100 Years of Black Excellence in Historic Celebration.  These works must honor Malcolm X’s legacy and explore themes of social justice, identity, and empowerment. Creatives who are interested in showcasing poetry, music, dance, visual art and other creative expressions for the symposium have until Jan. 15 to contact YouAreInvited@lcc.edu with their name, contact information and a sample of their proposed work. “This is your chance to elevate your voice, share your story, and be part of a powerful, signature campus event,” Equity Coordinator KyLee Carter expressed.

The event is organized by the Black History Awareness Community and Martin Luther King Jr. Equity Center through the Office of Empowerment.
