Lookout Below: Excited for journalism
Hey there! My name is Mallory Stiles. I am a new staff writer for The Lookout.
While I may be new to the paper, I have been taking classes at LCC for years. I am a journalism major who enjoys nothing more than chasing a story.
My hobbies include running, reading and oyster days at Mitchell’s Fish Market. Yes, I said oysters. I travel to anywhere I can, whenever I can. In the past few years I have crossed the country more than once.
I have a deep love for so many cities that I have stumbled across in my travels, But when all was said and done, it was time to come home and get back to the grind.
My end goal is to graduate from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. My first few semesters at LCC it felt impossible, but with every passing grade the light is just a little brighter at the end of the tunnel.
I want to talk to people. I want to cheer them on and help make our community a better place for all of us. I want to be a voice for change and make an impact.
My time at The Lookout has already helped me grow so much as a writer, and I can honestly say I am looking forward to soaking up everything I can.
I don’t cook but I do kickbox. I love music from every genre. My playlist includes everything from Nina Simone to Kublai Khan TX.
I am not really an animal person but I love to garden. I am making plans to teach English to children in Ghana, Africa, next summer.
My influences are Michelle Obama and Samantha Bee; very different tones but both strong and brilliant women.
The most important things to me are my family and my career. In my spare time, I chase interesting people and interview them. I ask whatever questions I think of, just for the fun of it.
Since I was little this is what I wanted to do and I am just so grateful that I am here, writing to you, a step closer to making it all happen.
Thanks for reading.
