The Lansing Community College History program offers several events helping to enrich students' education and historical knowledge. One of these events, Historians at the Movies, is returning for the fall semester.

Historians at the Movies screen one film each month, offering insight into the historical context of the film and providing a space for students and instructors to discuss the movie. Previous movies screened by the program include “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “StarTrek”, “Radium Girls” and “Office Space.”

Historians at the Movies typically choose a film and meet virtually over WebEx to view and discuss the movie. These meetings are often co-hosted by an LCC club or instructor and focus on a film relating to the host’s expertise.

This semester, the first film viewing will take place over WebEx on Sept. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The film will be “Empire Records”, and the meeting will be cohosted by Timothy Eubanks and the LCC Vinyl Record Club.

New to this year, the event offers snack packs available free to 25 students on a first come, first serve policy. Students can grab one for themselves from the Social Science and Humanities office located in the Arts and Sciences Building in room 2203 during the week the film is scheduled. Students looking for more details on the event can explore the History Matters: Learning Outside the Classroom webpage on the LCC website.
