The Help-Portrait returned to LCC for its fifth year on Saturday, Dec. 6, providing the Lansing community with free professional photographs. This event took place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Gannon Commons at LCC’s Downtown Campus.

The Help-Portrait is a global movement where photographers and volunteers give back to their local community. Originally founded by photographer Jeremy Cowart in 2008, the project focuses on giving free printed and digital photos to people who may not be able to access or afford professional photography.

Families could pre-register or walk-in between 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Each session lasted up to 15 minutes with up to three poses per family. Space was offered on a first come, first served basis, and the final session began at 1:45 p.m. Families who attended received a free 8-by-10-inch photo and digital access to the photos, by flash drive or downloading a link.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said LCC President Steve Robinson in a Nov. 24 press release. “Our amazing LCC photography faculty and students provide an incredible service to our community, and it just feels good to be a part of it.”

The event was open to anyone wanting a portrait and service animals were welcome, but not pets. To learn more about this event, visit the Help-Portrait page on LCC’s website.
