The LCC STEAM Fest took place Nov. 8, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and was held in the Arts and Sciences building on LCC’s Downtown Campus. Kids in grades kindergarten through sixth were invited to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics through themed activities. This event was free, open to the public, and hosted to inspire a love of STEAM-focused learning among Lansing-area youth. It has been going on for thirty years except for the brief hiatus during Covid-19.

The LCC faculty taught several STEAM topics. LCC faculty from Science, Math, Art, and Anthropology joined community organizations like Capital Area District Library, Elderly Instruments, and MSU Science Theatre to set up and run the different rooms.  Current LCC students also volunteered to help participants navigate the experience.

Alicia Musser, a professor at LCC, was the lead coordinator of the event. Musser explained some of the events that occurred, “Some of the options included investigating what an Owl had eaten for dinner in Owl Pellets, building projects in Cardboard Construction and exploring outer space in Planetarium Shows,” Musser said. “More events were learning basic programing in Programming with Alice in Wonderland, constructing a speaker from household materials in Making a Loudspeaker, practicing statistics in M&M Math, and watching some cool chemical reactions in Chem Demos.”

The event was attended by over 500 children and their families. Participants were given a map to explore the building at their own pace.
