Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights with various versions of the holiday celebrated in other Indian religions like Jainism and Sikhism. The reason for celebration is that the holiday symbolizes the spiritual victory of Dharma over Adharma aka good over evil.

Diwali began October 20, 2025 and lasted for five days in October. There is a lot that goes into preparing for the holiday. According to Royal Museums Greenwich, celebrants clean and decorate temples, workplaces, and their homes. These places get illuminated by candles, oil lamps and Puja are made. Puja is a Hindu ritual if worship that involves offerings, prayers and devotions to deities. Celebrants also bathe with water and fragrant oils, and dress in fine clothing and jewelry are worn for this occasion.

Some traditional clothing that is worn during Diwali is sarees, lehengas and Anarkali suits for women. While for men, the clothing worn are kurtas, sherwanis and kurta-pajamas.

Here at LCC, on October 20, 2025 the Office of Empowerment hosted an event to celebrate Diwali. The event featured food, Hindu videos, candlelight to illuminate the space and more. The event was from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
