LCC sophomore pitcher Gavin Walters shut out The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 at Municipal Park in Lansing. LCC won the first game 6-0, but lost the second 7-4.
This pair of games moves the Stars’ record to 12-3 in conference play and 26-11 overall.
Walters pitched all seven innings in the first game, only giving up two hits. He walked
three batters and struck out four.
The Stars only recorded four hits in the first game, but were able to bring in four runs on a grand slam from freshman Jack Bakus.
Baserunning was a strong suit for the Stars during the first game as they racked up five stolen bases. Sophomore Preston Leon had two of them.
The second game was not the same story for LCC, as they recorded more hits than the Cougars, but were not able to bring in runs at the same rate.
Freshman pitcher Easton Remick started the game for the Stars and pitched the first four and a third innings. He gave up all five of the recorded hits for the Cougars and was then subbed out for sophomore pitcher Blake Gedrich.
Gedrich finished the fifth inning and gave up the other two runs while at the mound. Freshman pitcher Zach Demianenko finished the game for the Stars, pitching two innings and allowing no hits or runs.
Offensively, the Stars recorded eight hits. Sophomore Evan Mendoza led LCC with two hits, including a home run.
LCC will get another chance to win a pair of games against the Cougars on Saturday, April 20, but this time on the road. The Stars also play on Sunday, April 21 at Muskegon Community College.
