The Lookout Associate Editor/Photo Editor Kaitlyn Delaney recently sat down to speak with LCC softball player Kyra Shadduck. A graduate of DeWitt High School, Shadduck is currently a freshman at LCC.
When did you start playing softball?
“Probably T-ball, so probably 5 years old, and ever since then it went into softball.”
What position do you play? What made you want to play that position?
“I am a pitcher. My mom was a pitcher in high school, so she was the one that taught
me the basics and kind of got me into pitching.”
Do you have any moments from playing softball that stand out?
“I would say, probably our game against Glen Oaks when it was super tight. We came
together as a team and were able to beat them.”
Is there one piece of advice you’ve been given that sticks out with you?
“I would say, since softball is such a mental game, (Coach) Kibby always tells us
to stay inside ourselves. And honestly to just also have fun, especially when you’re
in the box, to relax and just have fun.”
Do you have any personal or team goals for the rest of the season?
“I would say for team, we want to win regionals and make it to nationals.”
Do you have any game-day routines?
“Not really, probably just listen to music before the game, I would say.”
If you weren’t a softball player, what sport would you have played?
“I ran cross country in high school, so probably cross country.”
What are your plans after LCC?
“I hope to go play softball somewhere. I’m not really sure where yet, since I’m a
freshman, but somewhere to play softball.”
