Abby's Inklings: A fresh start for fall

Summer is fleeting. We are heading into a new semester, and I hardly feel I have left the last one.
In hindsight, I accomplished many projects, and even found some time to take a weekend vacation.
Since seeing live music is top on my list of fun activities, I made time to take the train into Chicago and see one of my favorite bands, HEALTH, at the Concord Music Hall.
There is a bed & breakfast I stayed at during the trip that had amazing blueberry pancakes, called Ray’s Bucktown B&B.
With the extra time I have had the last couple months, I took advantage by engaging in more leisurely tasks, such as reading the novel “Lost Gods” by Brom and spending a great deal of time at the gym and in my backyard and garden.
Getting outside always improves my mood, but I also like to focus on my mental health from a clinical angle. This means making more frequent sessions with my counselor and prioritizing my emotional needs first.
I am noticeably making progress; it is a great accomplishment! With that being said, all the time and work I have spent investing in myself this summer will likely improve my semester; in my schoolwork and in my journalism.
The excitement I have to be back and writing for The Lookout is immeasurable. I will be meeting a new team of writers soon, seeing that I am the only returning staff member. It will be refreshing to meet new faces and discuss our goals for the school paper this semester.
