The music department at LCC features a constant variety of concerts, student showcases and more.

Over the course of the 2026 spring semester, LCC plans to showcase a variety of student performances. The LCC Jazz Band will be performing concerts on Feb. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium. According to Johnathan Gewirtz, the lead faculty of the music department, “The jazz band will collaborate with the Happendance Professional Company for two nights of big band jazz and dance,” Gewirtz said. “This will be the third year the two groups have worked together. It is always a special event.”

Another upcoming musical event at LCC is a concert highlighting faculty on March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Michigan Room located in the Gannon Building. This event will have solo and group performances from faculty in classical or jazz settings.

More upcoming events are the annual concerts for the different musical groups at LCC. The LCC Concert Choir leads with a performance on May 2 at 3 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium. The following day, the LCC Rock Band hosts their concert on May 3 at 6 p.m. at The Avenue, a bar and music venue on East Michigan Avenue. Finally, the LCC Multi-Instrumental Ensemble will perform their concert on May 9 at 3 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium.

Students can join these ensembles by taking them as a class here at LCC. There are no auditions required, and there are even non-credit sections of all ensembles at a reduced cost for students and community members that want to participate. “The ensembles are always looking for more members,” Gewirtz said. “So, if there is an instrumentalist or vocalist looking for an exciting, regularly-scheduled and enriching musical opportunity, then please contact the music department.”

For more information about auditions, registration or college-credit options for music ensembles, students can contact Gewirtz by email.
