Lansing Community College’s men’s basketball coach, Mike Ingram, reached a major milestone last Monday, Feb. 2, with his 700th career win as the Stars defeated Southwestern Michigan 100-76. This victory adds to a long list of accomplishments for Ingram, who had been connected to the LCC community for nearly four decades.

Before becoming a coach, Ingram was a standout student athlete at LCC. He played men’s basketball and scored over 1,100 points, became a second team All-American at LCC (1981), earned two conference Player of the Year honors, and was named MVP of the Western Conference Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA).

Ingram’s success at LCC earned him a full ride scholarship to Central Michigan University, where he continued his basketball career. After graduating and starting a family, he reconnected with his former coaches, which led him back to LCC.

He joined the basketball program as an assistant coach during the 1986-87 season. He helped guide the Stars to a National Championship in 1988 before being named head coach in 1990 following the retirement of Art Frank.

Since then, Ingram has led the program to 19 MCCAA Conference championships, as well as national finishes of 4th-, 5th-, 7th-, and 8th-place. He has also been named the MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year 20 times and Region 12 Coach of the Year on four occasions. To recognize his lasting impacts on the court, he was named to the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2017 and the BCAM Hall of Fame in 2021.

“Coach Ingram’s 700th win is more than a number—it represents decades of leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence,” said LCC President Steve Robinson in a Feb. 4 press release. “His influence extends far beyond the court, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with him.”
