The women’s basketball team’s season has had a positive start with a record of 6-1.

The team currently ranks #11 for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division ll rankings, which has been the highest ranking since the 1990s. They also set the LCC women’s basketball game scoring record, banking 129 points in their season’s opening game.

The team consists of ten freshman and five sophomores. According to Head Coast Megan Hudson, “The roster is loaded with young talent, making it exciting to see both where the program is now and where it’s headed,” Hudson said. “Their development promises to be something special to watch.” Hudson is very happy with how the rookies and the returning members are performing.

Ashlynn Putman and Claire Tobias are among the team’s standout players. They are two returning starters, who, according to Hudson, “Anchor the team with their experience and high IQ performances.  Both have already hit career highs in scoring this season.”

Furthermore, “Contributions have come from every corner of the lineup—players are making the most of their minutes, posting double-digit rebounds or 20-plus point performances on multiple occasions,” Hudson said. “The balance and energy across the roster have been nothing short of impressive.”

The women’s basketball team’s conference play is Jan. 10 through Feb. 24. If the team places first in the Western conference, they are invited to play in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) championships on Feb. 27 and 28. If they place in the top five for their Western conference, they then advance to regionals on March 3, 6, and 8. If they win regionals, they will advance to the national championship games, which are March 16 - 22 in Hickory, North Carolina.

The team’s latest game this season was Nov. 25 versus Mid-Michigan College, where the team won 86-62. The next game is tonight against Macomb Community College.
