Men’s basketball shoots for a stellar season

The men’s basketball season has gone extremely well. The men’s basketball team went undefeated in their first seven games this season, with their only loss being against Mid-Michigan College last Tuesday.

Coach Mike Ingram named four standout players, who are all returning starters for this year: Zander Woodruff, Devon Hodges, DeAire Lee and Ben Smith. “Zander Woodruff was third team All-American, leading the country in scoring at 32 points a game,” Ingram said. “Ben Smith was a starter for us and was honorable mention all-conference. Devon Hodges was a starter for me at point guard. All three have come back better players.” Another standout player has been DeAire Lee, a starter from last year who has achieved 41 rebounds.

There are also two new recruits added this season who have been star players, guards Isaiah Foster and Lamont Green-Torbert. “Our guards are really good, really setting the table for us as far as the pace that we want to play at both ends of the court,” Ingram said.

So far, the team’s most standout game has been against Aquinas College. At that game, the Stars pummeled the Saints, winning with a score of 123 to 59.

The men’s basketball team’s conference play begins in January. Games typically occur on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Stars next play tonight versus Macomb Community College.
