Dr. Shai James Boyd is an exemplary nonprofit professional with an impressive career dedicated to community-building and fostering positive change. With over 27 years of experience, she has not only made significant contributions to the field of fundraising but has also been a trailblazer as the first African American woman in southeast Michigan to earn the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation in 2007.

In her current role as Assistant Director of Institutional Advancement at the Henry Ford College Foundation, Dr. Boyd manages key areas such as fund development, alumni relations, and departmental operations. Her leadership extends beyond her professional responsibilities, as she also plays an active role in campus organizations like the HFC Women’s Network, the Black Employees Association, and the Local 71 Reclassification Committee.

Dr. Boyd’s dedication to mentorship and community service is a defining aspect of her career. She has been recognized for her contributions as Mentor of the Year by the University of Michigan-Dearborn and has received numerous awards, including the Youth Volunteer Corps Award, Big Sister of the Year Award, and the Spirit of Detroit Award. She has also served on influential boards like Teen HYPE and the University of Michigan-Dearborn African American Alumni Affiliate.

An advocate for diversity, empowerment, and higher education, Dr. Boyd’s leadership extends to her work with women of color in higher Education. As co-chair of the Women of Color Collaborative (WOCC), she fosters a supportive environment for women of color in academia. She serves on several high-impact boards, including the MI-ACE State Board of Directors and the CASE Community College Advisory Council.

Dr. Boyd’s passion for lifelong learning is reflected in her academic achievements, including a Doctorate in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University. She has also completed prestigious programs like the Greater Good Nonprofit Leadership Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and participated in leadership initiatives such as Leadership Detroit and the Detroit Executive Leadership Circle. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Boyd is a recognized speaker and presenter, sharing her expertise on leadership and fundraising at local, regional, and national conferences.

Her deep commitment to service extends into her personal life, where she is a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a licensed Evangelist Missionary in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). Dr. Boyd’s professional and personal life is grounded in her support for her husband, Wilson J. Boyd, her greatest cheerleader and supporter.

Dr. Boyd’s career and contributions reflect her unyielding dedication to strengthening communities, empowering others, and promoting diversity, all while leading with compassion and vision.
