Join us for ‘We’re Better than THAT’ anti-racism kickoff

Embracing diversity is a continuing process that requires honesty, cooperation and conversations. To facilitate this work, LCC has created “We're Better than THAT,” a campaign to combat institutional bias and racism. “We're Better than THAT” will provide LCC's students, employees and law enforcement professionals with approaches to difficult conversations and strategies to stop hate speech and racism in our community.

Join other LCC students and college employees to kick off this work 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 17. You can join virtually via Webex, or in person in the Gannon Building’s Michigan Room. Light refreshments will be served at the in-person component of the kickoff.

The kickoff will include a keynote from Trustee Angela Mathews as well as remarks from President Steve Robinson, Chief of Police Daryl Gaines, Chief Diversity Officer Tonya Bailey and more. Trustee Samantha Vaive will read our land acknowledgement.

Whether or not you are able to attend the kick off, you can join in this important work by signing the “We’re Better than THAT” pledge. The pledge asks you to commit to nine principles:
  1. Become an upstander, not a bystander
  2. Actively prevent bias
  3. Seek mentorship opportunities
  4. Engage your community
  5. Be an ally
  6. Connect with diverse communities
  7. Lead with transparency
  8. Engage in courageous conversations
  9. Proactively pursue diversity, equity and inclusion learning and training
