LCC Student Spotlight at Delta Dental

Name/Position
Tyler Seal, User Services Technician

Current or Former LCC student?
I am a former LCC student.

LCC Major and Education/Career goals
I graduated from LCC in 2019, with an associate's degree in Computer Networking and Cybersecurity. I also took all of the classes that I could that would transfer to Davenport, because they were a lot less expensive than Davenport's offerings, but still fulfilled the requirements for a Bachelor's from Davenport. That allowed me to receive a bachelor's from Davenport after only a year of classes, as all of the classes I had transferred from LCC fulfilled a lot of the requirements for the Networking and Security degree at Davenport. After Davenport, I don’t really plan on going back for any more schooling, but I am looking forward to a long career in IT.

What I like most about working for Delta Dental
There are a lot of different kinds of technology and systems that I get to work on here, especially because my team is kind of the 'first stop' for a lot of needs/issues that may arise, so I get to be involved in a wide variety of different tasks and projects. That also means that there's always new things for me to learn about, which I also greatly enjoy.

How I heard about employment with Delta Dental
I actually heard about an intern position at Delta Dental while I was at LCC, through LCC. I was part of a mailing list that would send out job postings for students in the IT related classes, and the Delta Dental job posting caught my eye. I applied for the internship, and then once I had finished my bachelor’s degree, I was brought on full time.

Advice to anyone applying for jobs/internships
I took a class at LCC that helped me polish up my resume before I started applying to different jobs, and I think that really helped with my confidence going into interviews, as well as my chances at receiving job offers. So my advice would be to make sure you go through your resume with someone to make sure it's as good as it can be.

Information to share with LCC students
I really enjoyed my time at LCC. I met some great people there, and I think it's a really good way to figure out what you want to do career-wise. It's also a great way to begin building up classes to transfer to other colleges, if you decide you want to pursue something after an associate's degree.
