LCC to participate in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters

LANSING, Mich. - Lansing Community College will join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty. LCC will light the Granger Clock Tower on the Downtown Campus and the dome at West Campus red in honor of some of America’s bravest heroes.

As dusk turns to dark, Sept. 27 – Oct. 4, LCC landmarks will glow red with respect to fallen firefighters, first responders, and their families. There have been 61 brave souls lost nationwide this year, with 17 deaths being attributed to COVID-19.

“This is our second year participating in this national tribute,” said Tim Baker Interim Associate Dean of Technical Careers and Director of Public Service Careers. “This is our way of showing the firefighting and first responders community that we honor and remember all of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day. We especially want to honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice during these extraordinary times. Lighting the campus red shows not only our tribute to firefighters and first responders, but it highlights the resilience of the greater Lansing community and how we continue to pull together during these difficult and uncertain times.”

“The Greater Lansing area is home to so many frontline heroes,” said LCC President Steve Robinson. “Our participation in this national tribute pales in comparison to the service given. We can only hope that our gesture lets this community know how much we appreciate the sacrifices made by our firefighters and first responders. We could never thank them enough.
