LCC Office of Diversity and Inclusion to hold Summer Impact 2020

Summer Impact begins July 8

LANSING, Mich. – (June 30, 2020) LCC’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion is hosting Summer Impact 2020 from 1-4 p.m. on the last four Wednesdays in July beginning on July 8, and continuing July 15, July 22, and July 29.

This virtual program geared toward 11th and 12th-grade high school students and recent graduates’ aims to help students increase their knowledge and skills in diversity, equity, and inclusion while building a bridge between what they are learning in high school to their future college and employment success.

This free program is a series of highly interactive virtual sessions. Participants that complete all four Summer Impact sessions will receive a Digital Badge Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion.

Program topics include valuable skills needed to succeed in college or employment including;

  • Discover how to navigate the college experience
  • Opportunity to make connections with college students, faculty, and subject matter experts
  • Discover how to become an advocate for inclusion
  • Learn about the available services at LCC designed to help you succeed in your academic career

“At the core of the importance of Summer Impact is enhancing a student’s ability to communicate, interact and understand people from different cultures and/or identities,” said LCC Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Tonya Bailey. “No matter what career path a student chooses, they will inevitably encounter diversity. Our aim is to expose students to inclusive engagement practices that will assist them in how they respond or interact with that diversity.”

Students from every background will benefit and are encouraged to attend including African American, Latino, and Native American students, those in the foster care system, immigrant, refugee, LGBTQ+, and first-generation college students are all welcome.
