LCC encourages young minds with STEMfest 2017

November 10, 2017

Lansing - More than 730 students in grades K-6 will converge on Lansing Community College, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, for STEMfest.

This free event will provide a fun and exciting day of exploration in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). There will be more than 50 hands-on activities, including Create A Comet, Fun Math, Spirals, Fantastic Frogs, Elemental Extravaganza and Weather or Not. The atmosphere is one of learning, without the pressure of competition.

The event is designed in an open-house style, so participants and their parents can choose rooms that fit their interests. They may spend a few minutes in some rooms and a half hour in others. The learning is fun and well-supervised, with 50 LCC faculty and staff members, 150 LCC student volunteers, and vendors from Preuss Pets, Capital Area District Library, Impression 5 Science Center and Symbiosis International.

The LCC Science and Math departments count this community outreach event as one of their favorites of the year. This year's exploration will take students on a journey through STEM they will never forget!
