"Run with Pride" and Raise Funds for LCC's Lucero Scholarship Program

LANSING 9/21/12 – Lansing Community College’s LUCERO program is sponsoring its inaugural “Run with Pride” LUCERO Heritage 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. to help raise funds for the program’s scholarship fund. The LUCERO Scholarship will provide funding for Latino students to achieve their academic goals while pursuing their studies at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan.

LUCERO offers academic advising, career and personal counseling, transfer transition support, and personalized tutoring. LUCERO students are provided opportunities to celebrate their experiences and culture, engage in activities to support their student success and help build a sustainable Latino community at LCC.

The “Run with Pride” LUCERO Heritage 5K Run/Walk will begin at the Gannon Building on LCC’s downtown campus (500 N. Grand Avenue, Lansing) and the course runs along the Lansing River Trail. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 10 a.m. Registration is $18 if you register by October 2nd. Late registration is $25. Free t-shirt with registration. Winners in each age group will receive a prize.

LUCERO symbolizes morning star, evening star, bright star, and brilliance. The acronym stands for Latinos Unidos Con Energia, Respeto y Orgullo (Latinos United with Energy, Respect and Pride). LUCERO creates a positive connection for Latino students at Lansing Community College and is designed to support LCC’s efforts in improving the recruitment, retention, graduation and transferring rates of Latino students.
