The LCC Massage Clinic and the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) are proud to announce a new collaborative initiative.

The partnership, which began Sept. 2021, will consist of conversations about the benefits of massage therapy and differences between a medical doctor and a doctor of osteopathic medicine, which will facilitate learning opportunities between the two disciplines. MSU COM students will tour LCC massage facilities during the fall 2021 semester, with LCC Massage Therapy students visiting MSU's COM facility Spring semester 2022.

During their tour of LCC's Massage Therapy Clinic, MSU COM students will learn the intricacies of patient processes and care in a therapeutic environment, after which they will participate in a verbal patient intake and treatment session. When visiting MSU's COM facilities, LCC students and faculty will receive a simulated medical evaluation by MSU COM students, which will provide insight into the important field of medical osteopathy. Finally, during the spring 2022 semester, up to 20 MSU COM students and MSU COM faculty members will work together with LCC Massage Therapy students in a simulated clinical environment to identify treatment plans, etc.

This collaboration between LCC Massage Therapy and the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine will facilitate understanding between future D.O.s and Massage Therapists, and will highlight the similarities between these two related and important fields.
